The Kirkerup case - Information to the press and the audience

The case is scheduled at the district court of Næstved in courtroom 6 as a jury trial on 14 and 15 May, 21 and 22 May, 24 May, 28 and 29 May, 3 and 4 June, 13 and 14 June, 17 and 19 June and 28 June 2024. All court days are scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.

27 May and 18 June has been scheduled as additional court days, should the need arise. According to the provisional timetable, it is planned that a verdict of guilty can be delivered 28 June, at 9:30 a.m. and judgement will be delivered 28 June, at 3 p.m. Changes may occur.

Journalists

The district court of Næstved has received inquiries from 17 Danish and foreign media, who wants one seat or more in courtroom 6 during the Kirkerup case which starts on 14 May 2024, at 9:30 a.m.

Based on the inquiries, 26 seats have been reserved for journalists and on some of the days 2 seats for court illustrators, which means that it has been possible to allocate more than one seat in the jury courtroom to 9 media.

Furthermore there will be 40 seats for journalists in courtroom 8, where there will be a video connection with sound to courtroom 6.

On the first day, all journalists must queue at the court's main entrance, Gardehusarvej 5, to get through the security check at the main staircase to the courtrooms. Journalists are encouraged to arrive in good time and join the journalists' queue, where access cards will be issued to those, who have reserved seats in courtroom 6. The journalists who are going to courtroom 8 will be given a number that is valid as an access certificate on the day and must be shown every time the courtroom is entered. It is recommended that journalists arrive in good time on the first day, so that journalists for courtroom 8 can be in place in the courtroom at 9:00 a.m. If there are available seats in courtroom 8 after 9:00 a.m., those seats will be allocated to audience members.

During the first court day, up to 30 access cards will be issued to journalists who have been issued a number for courtroom 8. This will speed up the queue for journalists in the following days. The seats in courtroom 8, for which access cards have not been issued, will be allocated each day on a first-come, first-served basis to journalists without access cards who, before 8.45 a.m. is at the front of the queue for journalists. If there are available seats in courtroom 8 after 9:00 a.m. those seats will be allocated to audience members.

Access cards will only be issued to people who can document that they represent a Danish or foreign news media. The access card can be handed over to another representative from the news media in question, the representative must be able to document that they represent a Danish or foreign news media upon request. Access cards must always be worn visibly.

For the use of journalists there will be plugs for power supply for computers in courtroom 6 and courtroom 8, but extension cords must be brought.

Audience

A limited number of seats in courtroom 6 and courtroom 9 have been set aside for the audience. In court-room 9, there will be a video connection with sound to courtroom 6. Audience must queue at the court's main entrance, Gardehusarvej 5, to get through the security check. Audience members are not allowed to bring mobile phones, smartwatches or other devices. If any of these effects are brought, they must be kept locked at the access control or in locked mobile phone bags provided by the court. The mobile phone bags will be unlocked when leaving the courthouse. Audience is encouraged not to bring mobile phones, smartwatches or other devices, as this will prolong the waiting time at the security check.

Audience members are encouraged to arrive in good time and stand in the queue for audience members, where they will be given a number that is valid as an admission certificate on the day. The number must be shown every time you enter courtroom 6 or 9.

Persons for other court proceedings

During the conduct of the Kirkerup case, persons who attend court sessions in courtrooms 1-4, 7 and 10 must queue at the court's main entrance, Gardehusarvej 5, to get through the security check. It will not be permitted to bring mobile phones/smartwatches or other devices. If these effects are brought to the court, they must be kept locked at the access control or in the provided locked mobile phone bags. Mobile phone bags will be unlocked when leaving the courthouse. Persons for other court proceedings are encouraged not to bring mobile phones/smartwatches or other devices, as this will prolong the waiting time at the access control.

It will be an advantage to show up in good time and join the queue for Other legal proceedings, the Bailiff's Court and the Bankruptcy Court.

Journalists and lawyers must go through the security check, but they are allowed to bring mobile phones/smartwatches and other devices.

Persons who must appear in the bailiff's court and the probate court

During the conduct of the Kirkerup case, persons going to the Bailiff's Court and the Probate Court must queue at the court's main entrance, Gardehusarvej 5, to be directed to the Bailiff's Court and the Probate Court.

It will be an advantage to show up in good time and stand in the queue for Other legal proceedings, the Bailiff’s Court and the Probate Court.

It is emphasized that it is not permitted to record images and sound in any of the courtrooms or elsewhere in the building and that violation will result in expulsion and a possible police report.
